Port Authority of Thailand

Introduction

      The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) is a public utility state  enterprise under the general supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. It was established by the Port Authority of Thailand Act B.E. 2494 (A.D. 1951) with the objective of conducting business  pertaining to the port for the interest of the state and public. At present PAT is responsible for two main ports i.e. Bangkok Port and Laem Chabang Port.

The main duties of PAT are as follows :-

 

- providing services and facilities to vessels and cargoes.

 

- conducting dredging operations and maintenance of the bar channels and basins.

 

- supervising stevedoring, handling, moving, storing and delivering of cargoes.

 

- co-operating and co-ordinating with other government agencies concerned and international ports.

 

- developing the organization to copewith the economic changes.

      The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) is the management body of  the Bangkok Port and Laem Chabang Port   with the power to formulate general policies and supervise operations and development plan. While PAT manages and operates 18 berths at  Bangkok Port, it has leased 8 out of 11 terminals at Basin 1 except the Coastal Berth (A1) of Laem Chabang Port to private terminal operators. Development of Basin 2 and 3 are under detailed design process and study for  the master plan respectively.
